Hard work pays off for students
HARD WORK, perseverance and dedication of 20 students paid off when they received scholarships from GAB Foundation under its Partial Scholarship Scheme.
The scholarships were offered to those pursuing their tertiary education in recognised local and foreign Institutions of Higher Learning.
A ceremony was held to congratulate the first batch of recipients.
Forty applications were shortlisted based on their academic performance, extra-curricular activities and family financial background.
“The scholarship is the foundation’s long-term commitment in enriching individuals and communities through education,” said foundation chairman Tan Sri Saw Huat Lye at the ceremony.
“I’m happy to be selected for the scholarship. It has always been my father’s dream to see me pursue my education in a local university,” said Tan Aik Keat, one of the recipients who is pursuing a medical degree in Universiti Malaya.
The scholarship scheme is a yearly initiative and is open to the public. For those who would like to apply for next year’s scholarship, look out for the announcements in April, next year, after the announcement of the 2009 SPM and STPM results.
Students already embarking in their tertiary education are also encouraged to apply.
