Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has announced the awarding of Yayasan 1 Malaysia Development Berhad (MDB) scholarships to outstanding students of religious schools to pursue medical degrees in Egpyt, from this year.
He said the step was taken to produce more Muslim doctors who were not only learned in the Quran and sciences but also able to be innovators in the medical field for Malaysians and the nation.
The Prime Minister said the government would also consider extending such scholarships for other strategic fields like finance and Islamic banking.
“In other words, religious schools will continue to be helped by the government. This will give rise to a generation of prominent Islamic intellectuals as stated in the Quran,” he said.
