Bagi lepasan SPM terbahagi kepada dua iaitu :

Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah Tuesday called on local varsity students to master English language and improve their communication skills through the Malaysian Soft Skills Scale (My3S) programme.

He said these were the two weaknesses revealed by a survey conducted last year as part of the My3S programme to bring holistic improvement among varsity students.

“Soft skills are vital because we want our graduates to be all rounders, excelling not just academically, but also in communication and interpersonal skills, because these aspects are part of the most important package they will need to enter the job market.”

He said this to reporters after opening the “Haluan Siswa” Week for new students of Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) here Tues day.

So far, Saifuddin said the My3S programme had been adopted by all 20 public universities and several private colleges in the country.

There are seven key elements in the My3S programme, namely communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, team work, continuous learning and information management, entrepreneurship, professional ethics and morality and leadership skills, he said.

The application for admission to Politeknik for December 2011 academic session is now open and can be applied on line at  www.politeknik.edu.my from 8 august 2011. As usual, to apply online form, the candidate need to fill up their MYKAD no and PIN Number which can be purchased at nearest Bank Simpanan Nasional branch.

Some notes for those who want to buy the PIN number :

• The applicant need to provide their MYKAD when purchase the PIN number at BSN to avoid any mistake.
• If you represent someone to buy the PIN number, please make sure your MYKAD copy are given to the rep.

Alternatively, students can call the ministry’s hotline at 03-8883 5858 or do a status check via SMS by typing UPU RESULT and sending the SMS to 15888.

For all successful candidates, public varsities will issue official offer letters to successful applicants from today and applicants are required to confirm their acceptance by July 22.

Applicants who failed to obtain any offer may submit e-appeals at http://upu.mohe.gov.my until July 24.

Appeal for UPU

• You can submit your appeal here Permohonan e-Rayuan Lepasan SPM/Setaraf Sesi Akademik 2011/2012.
• Candidates who fails to receive any offer from IPTA is allowed to appeal through e-Rayuan application to  Bahagian Pengurusan Kemasukan Pelajar, Jabatan Pengajian Tinggi within 10 working days from 6 May 2011.
• Deadline for appeal is 16 May 2011.
• The result of this appeal will be announced 2 weeks of June 2011.

For those who have applied for matriculation programmes can check the status of their applications tomorrow. The Education Ministry said this concerned students who had completed their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia and had applied from July 10 to Oct 10 last year.

There are few options to choose as follows :

• The students are also advised to visit the ministry’s website at http://www.moe.gov.my before keying in their identity card number.
• Applicants may also check via SMS by typing MOE MAT, followed by their identity card number before sending the message to 15888.

The ministry’s matriculation department can also be contacted at 03-8884 4088 from tomorrow. The hotlines are open on working days from 8.30am to 4.30pm.

Further questions regarding registration and fees may be obtained by visiting the ministry’s website or by contacting the respective matriculation or Mara colleges. The registration date for matriculation students is May 23.

Unsuccessful applicants may make appeals through the ministry’s hotline or website until May 13.

How To Apply

• All application can be made online at http://www.politeknik.edu.my as per the following procedures.
• To access the application form you must have the combination of MyKad no and PIN which you can purchase at any ATM Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) RM6.00. Please note that you need to have MyKad in hand to purchase the PIN no.
• Please ensure your MyKad number printed in the BSN payment slip are correct and there is 6 digits PIN number started with number “41” and followed with another 4 digit number. If you have forgotten your PIN number, too bad you have to purchase again.

What Next ?

When you have completed filling up the e-borang, please click “HANTAR MAKLUMAT PERMOHONAN” until you see the system prompt you to print. Please print your application details for future reference.

Any amendment on the forms can be made before closing date by following the above steps.

The academic term of the public and private institutions of higher learning (IPT) will start in September instead of July, said Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.

This new system aimed at circumventing public and private IPTs from losing outstanding Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia candidates to foreign universities. “These bright students hardly have enough time to pick the best local IPTs after the SPM results, and ultimately they choose to study overseas, particularly in Singapore.

In addition, local IPTs failed to attract foreign students from pursuing their studies here as the academic term beginning July was not aligned with the summer break semester system abroad.

With the new academic year, the SPM leavers will have too much free time on their hands before the IPT intake in the September next year.
