KUALA LUMPUR, March 7 (Bernama) — A new evaluation system for the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM), which will replace the existing examination system, will start with Lower Six students this year.

Malaysian Examinations Council chairman Datuk Dr Mohd Noh Dalimin said it would entail two methods of evaluation assessment — school-based assessment with a weightage from 20 to 40 per cent and final examination with a weightage from 60 to 80 per cent.

He said the move was in line with the Education Ministry’s strive to make the assessment and evaluation system to be more holistic by emphasising on outcome-based education, which would focus on students and not too examination-oriented.

“The school-based assessment will be used on almost all Form Six subjects. This will go down in the MEC history in conducting public examinations for the past 30 years,” he said when announcing the 2011 STPM results here, Wednesday.

For all last year’s Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination candidates can check your result on next Wednesday, the Malaysian Examinations Council said.

All candidates would be able to obtain their results at their respective schools from 12 noon while private candidates would obtain theirs through the post.  Candidates can also check the result via the text message by sending STPM Result<space>IC number to 15888 or at the council’s website at http://www.mpm.edu.my from noon on that day.

A total 50,602 candidates sat for the examination last year comprising 46,817 candidates from government schools, 1,266 from private schools and 2,519 private candidates.

KUALA LUMPUR: The 2009 Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) will be announced on Feb 25.

The Malaysian Examinations Council (MEC), in a statement here Friday, said candidates could obtain their results at their respective schools from 12 noon that day, while the private candidates would get their results by post.

Candidates can also check their results through the short messaging system (SMS) by typing STPM <space> <identity card number> and send to 36363, or type STPM Result <space> <identity card number> and send to 15888.

They can also check their results by surfing the MEC website at http://www.mpm.edu.my from noon on Feb 25.

A media conference on the analysis of the examination results will be held on the same day at 11.30am at the MEC office, Persiaran 1, Bandar Baru Selayang, Batu Caves, Selangor.

Last year, 52,348 candidates sat for the examination.

They comprised 47,260 or 90.28 percent government school candidates, 1,747 (3.34 percent) private school candidates and 3,241 (6.38 percent) private candidates. – Bernama
